CURRICULUM IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES AT THE JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL: SOCIAL STUDIES PERSPECTIVES

Development of curriculum is one the major debates in developing countries with particular reference to Nigeria but detail how will be implemented at school level are often neglected. This paper examined implementation strategies junior secondary level. The study adopted a descriptive survey design which focused on investigating school. target population for comprised all schools Ankpa Local Government Area, Kogi State and sample consisted 120 teachers drawn using purposive sampling technique from selected State. Researchers’ constructed questionnaire titled Curriculum Implementation Strategies Junior Secondary School Questionnaire (CISJSSQ) was used measure teachers’ opinion instrument has 15 items four-point Likert-scale strongly agree (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (D) disagree (SD). validated by three experts departments Social Science Education, Educational Psychology, Guidance Counselling Nnamdi Azikiwe University. researchers distributed collected copies help eight research assistants schools. data were analyzed weighted mean 2.50 computed as 4+3+2+1=10/4=2.5. Any score that equal or above considered significant therefore, accepted while less than rejected. Findings showed social studies not effective implementing various during teaching learning school, do teach appropriate contents classes Studies employ proper method objectives achieved. Based this, it recommended federal state ministry education should encourage through training re-training better among others. KEYWORDS: implementation, strategies, Perspectives
